Telemark

The drive up to Telemark.

I wish I could tell you Telemark was no good, keep all the visitors to Norway heading up to Voss and Sjoa.  But I can´t because Telemark is fast becoming one of my favorite places in Norway to paddle.

Typical scenery

Within a small area you can find a massive variation of rivers, slides and waterfalls all of which are fantastic runs.  Telemark also has a great atmosphere.  It´s not packed with paddlers like some of the more well known locations in Norway but there is always someone there.  We were lucky to bump into and paddle with some great people on our visit.  Team Blimey from the UK, Mark and Michelle Basso from Canada, Theo from switzerland, the usual suspects from Norway karl, Morten and Lars Georg and two solid boaters from New Zealand, Josh and Sam made our stay very enjoyable.

Per Christian stretching out

With Per Christian fresh out of shoulder surgery we were interested to see how he had healed and Telemark was lacking places to put it through it´s paces!

Due to very heavy snow pack Telemarks season has been a long one this year and will still be running at least another month which is great for us!  This has also meant very high water levels.

Monkey boy drinking his booty

Not only did this lead to our friend Monkey Boy (Theo) swimming out of a pin but also a nasty swim from Ed who ended up breaking his arm above the elbow.

get well soon buddy and don´t worry we have the booty all ready for your return!!

Spring is in the air!

This March Martin made an unusual visit from Sjoa down to the warmer south.  While he was here we decided to catch up and discuss some details of the expedition

All the talk of drops and paddling had us itching to get on the river, but unfortunately the water is still frozen in most places.  So we decided to head up to a small ski area called Hovden and take out our frustrations there.

Ronny our host in Hovden

We hooked up with local skiier Ronny who was happy to give us a place to crash and show us around.

The weather was quite dull with very flat light which didn´t make for the best ski conditions but we were just stoked to get out.  It won´t be long now before we can get on the river, so we are busy getting our kit ready and planning the drops.

More soon!
